Description
Mute swan (cygnus olor) preening on the shore of Lake Ontario. The young mute swans stay with their parents for about 6 months. Then the "teenagers" leave their parents and flock with other "teenagers" until they are about 4 years old. Then they find a partner and mate for life. This should be a young swan, not older than 4 years old as it was part of a flock of 7 swans. The knob size and the light orange color of the beak confirm the young age of this swan. Image was taken near Bronte Harbour in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on a sunny Spring day.
